Image Guide

Image guide consists of thousands to tens of fibre elements arranged coherently, enables the transmission of any picture image directly to a remote end. Sumitomo's image guides are made of synthetic quartz and fabricated by drawing multi-core glass elements, providing excellent transparency at visible wavelengths and ultra-fine resolution. Sumitomo's image guides have been contributing to application areas that need imaged data such as diagnosis and inspections.

Bundle

Sumitomo Electric provides "Silica light guide", which is applicable in the wide wavelength region from ultraviolet to near infrared. The ultraviolet grade light guide is applied to adhesive curing systems, steppers, laser scalpel, spectroscopy and so on. Sumitomo Electric also has developed a totally new UV transmission fibre for KrF and ArF Excimer laser applications.

Excimer Fiber

Sumitomo Electric developed a new UV transmission fibre (DF series) for KrF and ArF Excimer laser applications. In general, a silica fibre has high transparency and durability against UV radiation or solarization. However, in case of shorter wavelength UV transmission, such as KrF(248nm) and ArF(193nm), it is known that even silica fibre loses its transparency. Increasing defects in silica networks causes this solarization. The E' center (oSi o) has an absorption peak at 215nm, and it affects 248nm and 193nm transmittance. SEI developed an original E' termination method, so that long life Excimer laser fibre is provided. (Patent pending).
